Liverpool Under Scrutiny After Rare Losing Streak

Liverpool manager Arne Slot is navigating his toughest spell since arriving at Anfield. Three defeats on the bounce in all competitions, including two decided by stoppage-time goals, have rattled a fanbase that only months ago were celebrating a title win built on control, conviction and late-game resilience.

Sitting second in the Premier League behind Arsenal, this is hardly a crisis. Yet performances in recent weeks have lacked the clarity and sharpness that defined Slot’s debut campaign. Supporters had already voiced concerns about defensive gaps and slack pressing before the losses, suggesting this downturn has not come out of nowhere. The international break now pauses any tactical reset, leaving the Dutchman to wait on injury updates rather than immediate solutions.

Simon Jordan Questions Arne Slot’s Assessment

Where Slot sees fine margins, others see structural problems. In his post-match reflections, he suggested the defeats to Crystal Palace and Chelsea were games “where the fine margins went against his side once again’. That was enough to stir outspoken pundit Simon Jordan into action.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Jordan made his feelings clear. “I like Arne Slot and I listened to him over the weekend. I mean, it’s an interesting thing because this is now his team. This is a group of players that he’s now bought. He inherited a team, and some people might argue he’s quite fortunate last year because I think some of the teams in the league were quite mediocre.

“He won the league and deserves all the plaudits for it. I listened to him say some rather silly things on the weekend. He described the games they’ve been in against Galatasaray or Crystal Palace and Chelsea as being games that Liverpool were more dominant in and but they could have been 4-0 down against Palace.

“They got battered by Crystal Palace. So when Slot started saying that look they’ve got to do better Liverpool. Slot is now going to be under a little bit more focus because this really is his side. Last year that was not his side. That was a side that was handed to him. He had an embarrassment of riches.”

Emmanuel Petit Adds Pressure on Summer Signings

Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit also weighed in, suggesting Slot was hiding behind transition talk. Asked about the manager commenting on new recruits still settling, Petit dismissed the explanation.

“He’s talking about the new signings? That’s what he said. That’s an excuse for him to explain why they are second behind Arsenal if I understand it well.”

Response Needed After Break

Both Jordan and Petit reflect a broader sentiment that Liverpool’s standards leave little room for mitigation. Whatever the causes, three losses at this club invite analysis rather than sympathy. Slot has more than enough credit in the bank after delivering the title, but his own words have now been placed under the microscope.

The expectation is simple. Liverpool must click back into rhythm. The manager believes they will. His critics are waiting to see proof rather than promises.
