FLW's QPR fan pundit has given his verdict on Christian Nourry's time as CEO so far
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…
QPR have made a promising start to the new Championship season and sit inside the play-off places after nine games.
Julien Stéphan was appointed as manager in the summer following the dramatic exit of Martí Cifuentes, who had been a popular figure at Loftus Road.
The Frenchman has made a strong first impression as his replacement, with his side earning 15 points from their opening nine fixtures in the league.
His success so far will reflect well on CEO Christian Nourry, who is nearing two years in the position since he replaced Lee Hoos in January 2024.
The chief executive has helped turn things around both on and off the pitch at the London outfit, with QPR on the rise in the last couple of years after almost suffering relegation to League One prior to his arrival.
When asked to sum up Nourry’s time as CEO so far, FLW’s QPR fan pundit Louis Moir claimed that his work with the youth setup is just one example of how transformative he’s been for the club.
He believes that players are now coming through that look like they could become members of the senior first team, and that the chief executive is to thank for this development.
“Since Christian Nourry’s come into the club, he has totally transformed the club,” Moir told Football League World.
“It’s so easy to see because of on the pitch matters, clear improvement, off the pitch, major, major improvement.
“Totally ripping up, essentially, the youth setup and transforming that with the players we brought in for the youth development side.
“We’re actually signing players who look like they’re capable of pushing on and becoming first team players in a year or two.
“You’ve seen the likes of Danny Bennie doing well at the FIFA U20 World Cup, Tylon Smith as well, there’s been a few who have come in and they look like a different level in terms of youth players that we’ve signed before.
“So that’s just one of many things that he’s done and transformed.”
Moir has also highlighted the change in recruitment under Noury, signing players abroad, and being able to seal deals for the likes of Richard Kone and Kwame Poku as other examples of what he’s brought to the club.
“Recruitment, what I’ve been wanting for years, signing players from abroad, broadening out, signing players who are clearly coming here who have ability and could be worth a lot of money in a few years,” he added.
“Because obviously that’s the way to do things now I think, to sign players for cheap and sell them on for a lot.
“I think the ability to get the manager we have in, I think it would’ve helped massively with Nourry being in charge.
“I think convincing certain players to join the club as well.
“A few years ago, I don’t think you’d have seen the likes of Richard Kone, Kwame Poku, players like this joining the club.
“They can see the belief in what we’ve got going on.
“And obviously Nourry is a massive part of that.
“Literally everything he’s trying to do off the pitch to try and help the club progress is spot on, he’s so impressive the way he speaks about things.
“So for a young guy, the job he’s doing is really, really impressive.
“I’ve got no complaints.
“We’re doing well straight away this season, long-term hopefully the plan in place is even better.
“No complaints from me, excellent, excellent job he’s doing on and off the pitch.”
Next up for QPR is a home clash against Millwall on 18 October in a 12.30pm kick-off.
There’s no doubt that QPR have turned things around from a few years ago, as the team looked certain to be relegated under previous leadership.
The appointments of both Cifuentes and Stéphan as managers have highlighted the change in attitude at Loftus Road.
The changes in the youth setup haven’t borne fruit just yet, but there are promising signs that it could be quite beneficial in the long run.
