Queens Park Rangers are reportedly in talks with Scottish Premiership side, Aberdeen, over the possibility of striking a loan deal for Liam Morrison.

That is according to a report from Sky Sports via the publication's Transfer Centre blog (19/01 - 20:46), with the defender previously linked with a move away from Loftus Road earlier in the current winter transfer window.

The Hoops have endured an extremely mixed first campaign under the management of Julien Stephan thus far, as they currently find themselves 11th in the Championship table, having accumulated a total of 39 points from their first 27 league outings under the former Stade Rennais and RC Strasbourg boss.

However, due to the continuously congested nature of the second tier table as the campaign progresses through the early weeks of 2026, Rangers are not a million miles away from a potential play-off finish come the end of the season.

Indeed, ahead of the upcoming round of midweek fixtures, the West London side are just five places and four points behind Preston North End in sixth, as Stephan's men are gearing up their preparations for a clash with Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium on Tuesday night.

However, in the lead-up to this fixture, the risk of Rangers losing one of their centre-back options is very much real, with Morrison becoming the subject of interest from the Dons, as he looks to nail down a place in Scotland's upcoming FIFA World Cup squad in the United States, Canada and Mexico under Steve Clarke, for what is the Tartan Army's first involvement in the showpiece tournament since 1998.

Morrison has endured an intriguing career path so far, even though the Scottish centre-back is still in the relative infancy of his senior career at the age of 22.

The defender had featured for both Old Firm rivals, Rangers and Celtic, during his progression as a youngster, before eventually tying himself to a professional contract at Parkhead.

However, this proved to be in vain as far as the current Scottish Premiership champions were concerned, as Morrison made a high-profile switch to German Bundesliga giants, Bayern Munich, in the summer of 2019, before eventually progressing into the Bavarian side's 'B team'.

Ironically, it is his time at the Allianz Arena which is said to be playing a major part in the current talks which Rangers are holding with Aberdeen over a potential loan switch until the end of the season.

During the aforementioned revelation from Sky Sports on their live Transfer Centre blog, it has been claimed that the Dons' sporting director, Lutz Pfannenstiel, is a big admirer of Morrison, having watched his progression in the German game between 2019 and 2024.

The latest update regarding Morrison's potential exit from Loftus Road also comes after Pete O'Rourke of Football Insider revealed via X on January 12th that the R's man was keen on a short-term departure.

As previously mentioned, it has been reported that the main reason behind such a wish, from the player's point of view, is to increase his chances of playing for Scotland at the upcoming major tournament.

It has been a strange season for Morrison on an individual level in West London so far, it must be said.

Indeed, the Scot was tied down to a new contract in September after starting the campaign as one of Stephan's preferred defensive options, which included a run of seven successive starts at the beginning of the season.

However, he has only featured once in the past two months, which came in Rangers' 2-1 defeat away to West Bromwich Albion on December 29th, meaning that a short-term departure appears to be the best course of action for all involved.

Morrison isn't the only player who has been linked with a departure from their current employers in order to enhance their chances of featuring on the international stage.

Indeed, the same developments have taken place with former QPR striker, Lyndon Dykes, who departed Birmingham City to join Charlton Athletic last week.

The recent permanent arrival of Ronnie Edwards from Southampton will also impact the gametime which Morrison is likely to receive under Stephan between now and May, making a loan move a sensible outcome in order to boost his chances of a senior Scotland bow in the lead-up to, or at the World Cup.
