Rangers appear to confirm Kevin Thelwell is absolute Ibrox boss

Article image:Rangers appear to confirm Kevin Thelwell is absolute Ibrox boss

Rangers last night effectively confirmed that Kevin Thelwell is ultimately the boss at Ibrox now. In a job advertorial post, Rangers have confirmed they are seeking a new Director of Football Operations within the board under Kevin Thelwell. The curiosity of this post revealed that the new position would be under Thelwell, with the ‘head coach’ dismissed as a by-phrase under ‘coaches’. There wasn’t even an element of importance on Danny Rohl, but purely a reference to Kevin Thelwell as the sporting director, or as Rangers are now starting to perpetuate him as the “outright boss”.

Thelwell’s growing power

Forget even Patrick Stewart, he is the CEO and he is the only one with executive power at the moment. But Kevin Thelwell seems to be even his superior now. They are partners, but they are uneven. Thelwell deals with all the football and sporting side. Stewart basically does the paperwork and a bit of the business side. AKA, Thelwell is the absolute ultimate boss at Rangers, and he has absolute power to do anything he wants, including appointing anyone he likes, such as his son.

A worrying pattern

It is deeply worrying for Rangers fans, because his own track record is far from great. Even more worrying is the owners, but we’ll get to that in a second. Thelwell’s track record includes the same level of failure at Everton as he is currently having at Rangers. Overspending on rubbish, leaving them in the quagmire, and then pretending that it is all about success for the future and is data proven. It is complete nonsense.

The owners’ backing

But more concerningly, as we alluded to, is the bosses, the owners, Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers Enterprises. We explained yesterday about their connections to Chermiti’s agent and agency. But more tellingly, they are absolutely, unequivocally backing Thelwell 100%. 100% he’s their man, and they will back him to the hilt. Given all the damage that Thelwell did at Everton for three years, Rangers fans have a lot to look forward to (!)

A dangerous situation

It is a pretty dire state, the amount of power that Thelwell has he should not, but he does far too much. He is untouchable, and he can do what he likes. It is a very, very concerning situation, and Rangers are in real trouble. Arguably, a much worse situation now than we were under Craig White, or indeed even Mike Ashley. And we wish we were exaggerating with that one.
