Rangers fans are absolutely raging with Kevin Thelwell

It would be safe to say that Kevin Thelwell did not cover himself with any glory during Danny Rohl’s unveiling recently. Rangers’ sporting director has been deeply, deeply unpopular for an extended period of time. But in fairness follows a long line of sporting directors and technical directors who are all derided by the Rangers support.
Mark Allen was not popular back in the day under Steven Gerrard. It was believed he signed a lot of rubbish for Rangers. The same deal then applied to Ross Wilson. Remember all the no-entry or get-out signs for Ross Wilson back in the day?
Then we had Nils Koppen. He was appointed as Director of Recruitment, and he wasn’t too popular either. Especially after that January where he signed Dio, Cortes and Silva. So it is rare to say that any sporting director or director of recruitment has ever been popular or endorsed.
When Koppen was promoted to Senior Technical Director for the time, that also was derided hugely. It’s been a recurring theme, but it must be said that Thelwell may just be among the worst of the worst. Fans have been losing it over his defence of Youssef Chermiti. He was really stretching it.
He claims that Chermiti will develop into a player that we simply couldn’t afford now. Then he seems to imply that Chermiti will be a £30m player, and had the bare-faced cheek to outright lie to Rangers fans. He stated that the boy scores goals when the boy has not been scoring goals and hasn’t for a long time.
Rangers fans have been far from convinced, heavily deriding the sporting director’s claims. Furthermore, adding the jobs-for-the-boys angle with his son has been deeply embarrassing. He tried to justify that one as well, but of course you can’t really justify when you simply employ a member of your family.
The fact is Thelwell is toxic, a very, very dire employee of Rangers. He is paid big money and has done very little more than sticking his own nose in the trough. To say the least, Rangers would be better off without him, but he seems to be completely and utterly entrenched in the fabric of Ibrox at the moment, whether Rangers fans like it or not. It is certainly not ideal.
