Rangers finally sort out Robin Propper’s Ibrox exit

Rangers and FC Twente have finally reached agreement on the long-running Robin Propper transfer saga. The Dutch defender will now undergo his medical with the Eredivisie club and Rangers can at last move on from a deal that dragged far too long. With Rangers pushing to clear out players not in Russell Martin’s plans, Propper’s return to his homeland opens the door for much-needed squad restructuring at Ibrox.

There had been weeks of stalemate and frustration. At one stage, Ibrox Noise confirmed the Dutch club’s technical director acknowledged a delay in finalising the deal. Rangers held firm on their valuation and finally received terms they could accept. Twente’s persistence won out and the medical now seals what should be a permanent departure for the misfiring centre-back.

Propper’s time in Scotland offered little for fans to cheer. Questions circled over why he joined in the first place and Ibrox Noise rightly labelled him among the worst defenders to wear the shirt in recent memory. Rangers supporters never took to him and his limited appearances underlined that. Martin clearly wanted better options and now has the space to find them.

The move looked in serious doubt last week when negotiations broke down over a financial dispute. Ibrox Noise revealed Propper demanded a severance package Rangers refused to meet. Those complications threatened to scupper the move entirely. However, the two clubs worked past the sticking point (compensation?) and Propper now prepares for his medical, while Rangers prepare to refocus on incoming players.

The Dutch outlet covering Twente confirmed the procedure is scheduled and the deal will complete immediately afterwards. That means Rangers have cleared one of their most expensive errors off the wage bill and can push ahead with new business. Martin will feel relief. He now steers his summer rebuild away from problem exits and towards players who want to wear the shirt.

The Propper situation lasted too long and damaged momentum during a vital transfer window. Rangers, under pressure to deliver results quickly this season, must learn from the delays and communicate more effectively with fans. At least now the club can move forward. Ibrox regulars expect better and deserve clear decisions with no drawn-out drama.

With Robin Propper transfer saga exit sealed, Rangers have one less defensive option to cover, but they will not miss him. Martin wanted a leaner, more committed squad and Propper simply never belonged. The chapter ends. Rangers must ensure it does not repeat.
