Rangers lose again, Celtic hammer Kilmarnock and Hearts thrash Tangerines – SPFL Matchday Review | OneFootball

The second Matchday of the 2026/27 Scottish Premiership season is in the books, so let’s take a look through the results of this weekend.

Dundee 2-0 Aberdeen

The weekend got underway at Dens Park, as Dundee picked up their first win of the new season thanks to goals from Joe Westley and Joe Bevan.

Westley gave the hosts an early lead after just nine minutes, when his right-footed strike from close range found the back of the net. Aberdeen came close to an equaliser before the break, but Owen Goodman pulled off a show-stopping save to deny Daniel Happe’s header.

Dundee doubled their lead early in the second half, when Bevan fired into the top corner from a tight angle, continuing his strong start to the season so far, having now reached six goal involvements in as many games across the Premier Sports Cup and the league.

St. Mirren 1-0 St. Johnstone

Having eased past Falkirk in their opening game, St. Mirren’s perfect start continued on Saturday afternoon when they ran out 1-0 winners at home to newly promoted St. Johnstone.

After a close fought first-half that failed to yield many chances for either team, St. Johnstone won a penalty after Alex Gogic was penalised for a handball in the area. However, Jacop Chapman was able to deny Jamie Gullan from 12 yards with an excellent save down to his left-hand side.

The game remained level until the 73rd minute, when referee Ross Hardie awarded the home side a penalty of their own which was converted by Killian Phillips to give The Buddies all three points.

Kilmarnock 1-5 Celtic

Kasper Høgh stole the show at Rugby Park with a first-half hat-trick to make amends for his missed chances on Monday night. The first of the Dane’s goals came after just 64 seconds, getting Celtic off to a perfect start.

The Hoops were 3-0 up at the break after his other two goals, before Benjamin Nygren pounced on an error at the back to net their fourth just moments into the second half.

Killie pulled one back through Michael Schjønning-Larsen in the 55th minute; however, it only proved to be a consolation goal as Luke McCowan netted the sixth goal of the game with his first touch off the bench.

The result means Celtic top the table this evening with everyone having played twice.

Hearts 4-0 Dundee United

Another impressive win came in the capital, where Hearts steamrolled Dundee United at Tynecastle, with Cláudio Braga running the show.

Braga assisted the opener, which came after just four minutes when Tom Renaud picked out the top corner with an absolute corker of a strike from 30 yards. Hearts quickly added a second through Calvin Miller, who converted from the penalty spot after Daniel Bennie fouled Jamie McCart.

Braga then got his name on the scoresheet for the third goal, when he drilled the ball across goal and into the bottom corner from inside the penalty area. He notched another assist 10 minutes later, this time setting up Joshua McPake, who fired a fourth Hearts goal of the afternoon past Jack Walton.

The Jambos will need to repeat or better this result on Thursday night against Benfica if they are to progress in the Europa League.

Motherwell 0-0 Falkirk

I suppose you always have to have one of these sort of games in a weekend; this time it came at Fir Park.

Neither side managed to create more than 1.00xG throughout the afternoon, but the closest either side came to a winner was when Ibrahim Said rattled the crossbar in the first half.

Rangers 1-2 Hibernian

Hibs took an early lead from the penalty spot, through Josh Campbell, after Vanja Dragojevic was deemed to have committed a foul in the area following a VAR review.

Rangers huffed and puffed, creating plenty of chances, but they were repeatedly denied by goalline clearances, woodwork and Raphael Sallinger between the Hibernian posts. They did eventually get their equaliser in the 85th minute, when Djeidi Gassama’s cross was turned home by Miguel Chaiwa.

However, it counted for nothing in the end, as Callum Wright netted an injury-time winner for Hibs to compile Rangers’ miserable start to the season so far.
