FC Barcelona captain and forward Raphinha has made clear that he wants to remain at the club beyond his current contract, which runs until 2028.

The Brazilian international, who was named the club’s first captain by Hansi Flick this season, revealed in an interview with RAC1 (h/t Mundo Deportivo), that he would be delighted to extend his stay and potentially finish his career at Camp Nou.

Raphinha wants to stay at Barcelona

Barcelona sporting director Deco had already stated in a previous interview with RAC1 that the club intended to renew Raphinha’s contract.

Now, in a preview of the interview, which will be fully aired later tonight the winger responded positively to Deco’s invitation to discuss a new deal and admitted that he can see himself spending several more years at the Catalan club.

“Yes, I plan to renew. When I renewed my contract, I did so until 2028 with the idea that I would be 30 or 31 years old,” he confirmed.

Continuing, he added: “I didn’t know how I would arrive at that age, but given how I’ve started the season, I have a few more years in me.

“I’d be very happy to extend my contract and hopefully finish my career here without having to go anywhere else.”

The 29-year-old’s current deal expires in 2028, but his performances at the start of the season have strengthened his desire to remain at the club for longer.

Raphinha has made a flying start

Raphinha’s performances have provided further reason for Barcelona to consider extending his contract.

The Brazilian is currently La Liga’s top scorer with nine goals, two ahead of both Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappe, with the 29-year-old bagging a hat-trick earlier this week against Racing Santander.

He has also scored twice in the UEFA Champions League – in Barcelona’s 5-1 victory over Feyenoord.

With Raphinha now wearing the captain’s armband and playing a central role in Flick’s side, the forward has made his preference clear: he wants his future to remain at Barcelona.

In fact, if reports are to be believed, a meeting has already taken place between Raphinha and Deco to establish initial talks over a new deal.
