Real Madrid’s Raúl Asencio has been acquitted of the offence of disclosure of secrets after admitting he showed a friend a sexual video of a minor recorded in the south of Gran Canaria. He reiterated his apologies and thanked the victims for accepting them following Thursday’s hearing.

According to Superdeporte, presiding judge Virginia Peña delivered the ruling orally after an agreement between the prosecutor and the defences. The decision is final, with all parties saying they will not appeal, closing a three-year investigation.

The court sentenced Andrés García, Juan Rodríguez and Ferrán Ruiz to one year in prison for disseminating child pornography. The trio were Real Madrid C players at the time. As they have no prior convictions and the sentence is under two years, they will not go to prison unless they reoffend.

They must complete a gender awareness course and are barred from approaching the underage victim for two years. They are also prohibited from jobs or activities involving regular contact with minors for three years.

The complainants waived any civil or criminal action. In statements to the court they said they forgave all those involved freely and without pressure. One, speaking via videolink, said she was acting of her own will to bring the matter to an end.
