Raya helps Arsenal get the better of resilient Sunderland | OneFootball

Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya produced a crucial penalty save to help his side make it four wins out of four in the Premier League.

Sunderland were resilient at the Stadium of Light but came unstuck in a period of two minutes that saw them miss a golden chance to take the lead before then falling behind.

The Black Cats were awarded a penalty in the 54th minute when Ezri Konsa grappled Daniel Ballard down to the ground. Enzo Le Fée stepped up to take the resulting spot-kick but his effort low to the right was palmed onto the post by Raya.

Two minutes after that golden opportunity, the champions took the lead. There was some inevitability about the goalscorer: former Newcastle United man Bruno Guimarães. The Brazilian received the ball on the edge of the area from Declan Rice and had time and space to pick out the top corner beyond the reach of Robin Roefs.

Jurrien Timber did have the ball in the net again for Arsenal but his goal was rightly disallowed. At the other end of the pitch Raya was again needed to keep the home side at bay with time running out.

The game was wrapped up in the final moments when Reinildo Mandava clumsily brought down Bukayo Saka in stoppage time. That resulted in a penalty and a second yellow card for the Mozambique defender. 

Saka stepped up and dispatched his penalty to seal a hard-fought 2-0 victory for Mikel Arteta's side. Sunderland meanwhile will look back at that penalty and wonder what would have happened if it had been converted.
