RB Leipzig have confirmed Xaver Schlager will leave at the end of the season after choosing not to extend a contract that expires this summer, the club said in a statement.
The announcement came on Friday after several meetings aimed at securing a renewal.
Sporting managing director Marcel Schäfer described Schlager as a key figure over three and a half years, adding the club tried to keep him, respected his wish for a new challenge and that discussions were open and honest. The focus now is on the run-in, with Schlager part of the push to meet this season's goals.
Schlager reflected on his time in Leipzig, highlighting the 2023 DFB-Pokal and DFL-Supercup triumphs and expressing how at home he feels at the club and within the team. He explained his decision is about seeking something new rather than rejecting Leipzig, and vowed to give everything until the final whistle of his last game.
The 28-year-old has been linked with Juventus. He has made 97 appearances for Leipzig, scoring four goals and providing nine assists.
