RB Leipzig are again being linked with Mainz midfielder Nadiem Amiri as the club weigh up ways to bolster their midfield. He was also linked last summer, but no move materialised.
Sport Bild reports that the 29-year-old has been identified as a leading option to add experience, with new head coach Martin Demichelis planning to use two No. 8 midfielders.
With Christoph Baumgartner set to be sidelined for several months, Amiri is viewed as someone who could make an immediate impact. He is not seen as a like-for-like replacement, and the pair could feature together once Baumgartner returns.
Any major outlay from Leipzig is expected to hinge on player sales, so a potential deal could take time to develop.
Mainz are under no pressure to sell, with Amiri contracted until 2028.
After the club’s final game of the 2025/26 season, Amiri did not rule out a summer exit, casting some doubt over his future.
