Reading should be eyeing a move for an out-of-favour Wrexham forward who has already shown his class at League One level in recent seasons.

Reading will be hoping they can make a timely push for promotion back into the Championship next season, under the management of Leam Richardson.

There were some eyebrows raised when Richardson was appointed as Noel Hunt's permanent successor, and despite taking them clear of the relegation zone, Reading's 2025/25 league campaign ended in disappointment.

The Berkshire-based side finished 12th in the League One table last term, in what was a frustrating final few months to the season, as Reading threw away a good opportunity to finish in the play-offs in the third-tier.

The club's supporters voiced their frustrations towards their owners and Richardson, who has seemingly lacked a Plan B whilst with the Royals, especially if they go one goal down in matches.

Jack Marriott left a sizeable void in attack at a crucial stage of the 2025/26 season, when the former Wrexham forward picked up injuries which ultimately restricted his game time with Phil Parkinson's side in the run-in.

Reading can now turn their attentions to a promotion push next season, and it's crucial that they recruit smartly over the summer, as if they do that, then they'll stand a great chance of winning promotion back into the Championship.

The Royals have been playing their football in England's third-tier since their relegation from the Championship back in the 2022/23 season.

Various off-field problems in recent years had the club's supporters fearing the worst, but they seem to be through the worst of it now, with former Wycombe owner, Rob Couhig running things off the pitch.

Reading should eye move for Davis Keillor-Dunn

Reading seemingly have a good working relationship with Wrexham, and that could come in useful this summer if the club are wanting to bolster their attacking options.

Jack Marriott is a great example of a signing that has certainly paid off, with the former Wrexham man scoring an eye-opening 16 goals in just 24 appearances for Leam Richardson's side.

Sam Smith has also been sold by Reading to Wrexham in recent years, and that contact with Wrexham could be useful for Reading, as the Championship side have plenty of options that are likely to be

One player that Reading should look at signing either on loan or permanently this summer is Wrexham's Davis Keillor-Dunn, who has proven quality in League One.

Keillor-Dunn has been with Wrexham since February 2026, after signing late on in the mid-season transfer window from League One side, Barnsley.

The 29-year-old scored 16 goals across all competitions last season for Barnsley, and he'll be eager to recapture his best form at the earliest of opportunities.

Where would Keillor-Dunn fit into Leam Richardson's plans with Reading?

Keillor-Dunn has proven quality in League One, and it should be a no-brainer for Reading to target a deal for him this summer, particularly if he's to continue to find game time hard to come by.

The forward has been restricted to just six substitute appearances since signing for the club, and he's yet to make a league start for Wrexham, which will be hugely disappointing for a player of Keillor-Dunn's quality, as he's too good to be occupying a slot on the Wrexham substitutes bench.

Reading could benefit from adding additional strength in depth in the attacking areas of their squad, as both Mamadi Camara and Kadan Young (on loan from Aston Villa) are set to depart imminently, with their contracts reaching a conclusion. .

Keillor-Dunn will also be looking to secure regular minutes ahead of next season, and he's more than capable of playing alongside, or instead of Marriott, who burnt himself out in terms of energy levels towards the end of the 2025/56 league campaign.

Matt Ritchie is another player that has recently called time on his playing career whilst with Reading, and so it should be a no-brainer, for the Royals to make their move for Keillor-Dunn, especially when he can play on either flank, which he's shown whilst with Barnsley before moving on from Oakwell.

It wouldn't be an easy deal to get over the line, but if Wrexham are to add to their attacking options this summer, then you would imagine that the writing would be on the wall for Keillor-Dunn, who deserves to be playing regular first-team football in the near future.

He would also ease the weight of expectation on Lewis Wing to provide the creative spark in the Reading team, which is exactly what they need if they're to push for promotion back into the Championship.

Strength in depth is needed in attacking areas of the Reading squad ahead of the 2026/27 league campaign, and Keillor-Dunn would add depth and a serious amount of quality to Leam Richardson's squad if they make their move for the striker.
