On Thursday, it was confirmed that Ibrahima Konate had been forced to withdraw from France’s squad for their upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Türkiye, Belgium (x2) and Italy. The defender, who started Real Madrid’s last five matches prior to the international break, picked up an injury in training, and he has since been assessed at Valdebebas.
It’s not been a good start to the international break for Real Madrid, who confirmed earlier in the week that Federico Valverde suffered a grade 3 ankle sprain in the weekend defeat to Atletico Madrid. He’s set to be out for at least eight weeks, whereas Konate’s injury is believed to be much less serious.
In an official medical report, Real Madrid have confirmed that Konate has an injury to his right knee, for which he will undergo rehabilitation during the remaining weeks of the international break.
“After the tests carried out today on our player Ibrahima Konate by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the collateral ligament of his right leg. Pending evolution.”
According to Diario AS reporter Sergio Lopez, Konate’s injury is minor. The expectation is that he will only be out for a maximum of two weeks, meaning that he should be fit enough for Real Madrid’s first match after the international break, which is against Villarreal at the Bernabeu.
It is crucial that Konate recovers in time to play in that match, given that Dean Huijsen is suspended following his red card against Atleti. Were he not to be available, Jose Mourinho would be forced to count on Raul Asencio, whom he had pushed towards the exit door in the summer, before that possibility was ultimately ruled out.
Mourinho will be keeping a close eye on Konate’s recovery over the next couple of weeks, but right, it is likely that he receives the medical green light for the Villarreal match.
