Former Real Madrid midfielder and club legend Claude Makelele has expressed his admiration for the current generation of players at the Santiago Bernabeu, particularly Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr.

The Frenchman, widely regarded as one of the finest defensive midfielders in football history, revealed that he would love to share the pitch with the current Madrid stars, who continue to shine under Xabi Alonso.

During a recent interview (h/t Defensa Central), Makelele was asked which players from the present Real Madrid squad he would most like to play alongside if given the chance.

His answer immediately caught attention, as he said,

“A current player I would like to play with? Kylian Mbappe. I think he would have loved it. He would score more goals because he wouldn’t have to defend.

“Vini Jr. too. Yes, yes.”

Makelele’s response didn’t come as a surprise to many, given that both Mbappe and Vinícius are central to Real Madrid’s recent success and attacking identity.

The French star has taken La Liga by storm since his arrival, while the Brazilian continues to grow in stature, combining flair with consistent end product.

Meanwhile, the former Madrid midfielder also praised the structure and philosophy instilled by Xabi Alonso, suggesting that the team is on the right track with its mix of youth, talent, and discipline.

Makelele’s admiration for Mbappe, in particular, is an example of the growing recognition of the forward’s unmatched potential.

His statement that the Frenchman would “score more goals” alongside him reflects both his belief in Mbappe’s finishing ability and his own confidence in controlling the game from midfield, just as he once did for Los Blancos during his time.
