Real Madrid’s recent agreement with UEFA and EFC, which is being considered a peace treaty between Europe’s most successful club and the European football regulator, has been a major topic of discussion.
While it officially marked the end of the Super League project, fans are speculating what exactly an agreement between Real Madrid and UEFA could mean.
To that end, former Real Madrid star Raphael Varane has recently reacted to the deal, welcoming the club’s decision to strike an agreement with UEFA.
“The historic agreement between Real Madrid, the EFC, and UEFA is excellent news for world football,” Varane said, in a post on X.
The Frenchman, who retired from football in 2024, believes the agreement will lead to the betterment of football, especially at a time when technology and player fatigue have come into question.

“It should allow all issues to be addressed: the future of clubs, the accessibility of matches for fans, the technology that needs to be developed, and, above all, the calendar and the health of players. It is urgent,” he said.
Varane, who featured in 360 matches for Real Madrid during the course of his career, went on to hail the club’s president, Florentino Perez, for making the right decision.
“I had the great honour of playing for Real Madrid and I know Florentino Perez and his vision. If he has reached an agreement, it is because he knows that passionate football fans will be the first to benefit and players will be better protected.
“Florentino works in the interests of our sport, and today he proves it once again,” he added.
Finally, Varane admitted he is excited about the road ahead and what this agreement means for the future of European football, as he called for more unity.
“The time has come to move forward together and I am very happy to be part of it,” he concluded.
