With the season over for Real Madrid, the focus has firmly shifted to the upcoming presidential elections as well as the summer transfer window coming up soon after.

Apart from laying down the roadmap for the transfer window, Los Blancos also have some contract issues to deal with in the coming days.

Antonio Rudiger, for one, is one of the players whose contract expires on 30 June, but unlike with Dani Carvajal and David Alaba, the club have not announced his exit, indicating that the intention is to extend his deal.

Now, according to journalist Ramon Alvarez, Real Madrid and Rudiger have reached an agreement over a contract for one year until 2027.

Talks had been ongoing for some time now between the player’s camp and the club, and with the season now over, the two parties have seemingly been able to finalise the details and arrive at an agreement.

In line with their policy for all players over the age of 30, Real Madrid will only be offering the German international a one-year contract extension, securing his future until the end of the next season.

Important move

Securing Rudiger’s renewal is an important move for Real Madrid at a time when they have already said goodbye to two locker room leaders in Carvajal and Alaba.

The veteran German, despite a couple of run-ins with teammates this season, remains a highly-respected figure in the Real Madrid dressing room.

Moreover, his leadership, commitment, and drive to succeed have never been in question. As such, his one-year extension ahead of Jose Mourinho’s expected arrival in the coming weeks will come as a boost for Los Blancos.
