Real Madrid have released a hard-hitting video via Real Madrid TV, then on the club’s social media, publicly targeting journalist Juanma Castaño and accusing him of lying, manipulating, singling out and harassing. The club’s distribution of Real Madrid TV content on its own social channels is an unusual step.

The row began on Monday when, in his weekly Abc column, Castaño called Real Madrid TV the Gara of ultraflorentinismo. The club said in a statement that the comparison was deplorable and unacceptable, linked Gara’s history to ETA, and described it as an extremely serious act that crossed all limits.

On Tuesday night he apologised on Cope’s El Partidazo for that specific comparison, saying sorry for likening Real Madrid TV to Gara. He nevertheless stood by his wider criticism of the club’s official channel.

He said his view remains unchanged until its approach changes, that Real Madrid TV lies, manipulates, singles out and harasses.

The club’s video leans on those four verbs and says it will show who really does so. It then runs archive clips the club presents as false information, alleged favour towards Barça and criticism of Vinícius, plus segments in which, it claims, he labels Catalan Madrid fans deviants and laughs at women’s football.
