Real Madrid congratulated Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday after their Intercontinental Cup final win over Flamengo, which finished 1-1 after extra time and 2-1 on penalties.

The club said in a post on X that it was a deserved title and offered congratulations to PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, head coach Luis Enrique, the players and supporters.

The message was published three minutes into Madrid's Copa del Rey tie away to Talavera in the third division, a match they won 3-2.

The gesture prompted reactions on social media, given the at times strained relations between the clubs.

It also came a day after PSG were ordered to pay 61 million euros to Kylian Mbappé, who joined Madrid on a free in summer 2024.
