Real Madrid have reportedly decided to activate Como star Nico Paz’s buy-back clause in January, according to journalist Gatson Edul.

Previous reports indicated Paz’s potential return to the Spanish capital in the summer of 2026, when his €10 million clause becomes active.

But Los Blancos now appear to be keen on bringing the Argentine back early in the winter transfer window.

The 21-year-old has been scaling new heights at Como this season with his extraordinary performances and prolificacy.

The attacking midfielder has already racked up five goals and four assists in just 12 Serie A games, putting Como in the mix for the top-four race.

The Argentine is technically proficient, excelling with his playmaking, dribbling and shooting prowess. His brilliant work rate makes him a complete package.

Madrid forwent the opportunity to activate Paz’s clause last summer, allowing him to continue his development with Cesc Fabregas’ side.

Tottenham Hotspur also saw their lucrative proposal for Paz turned down.

Inter Milan are also said to be monitoring the La Fabrica graduate, with Madrid holding 50% of any future sale.

However, the La Liga giants have concrete plans for Paz, who is also understandably keen on etching his mark with his boyhood club.

The only concern is if there is room for Paz in Xabi Alonso’s current set-up.

Madrid are stacked with quality attacking midfielders, such as Jude Bellingham, Arda Guler and Franco Mastantuono.

Although Paz can operate as a right-winger, he has predominantly featured in the No.10 position.

The Argentine international will undoubtedly raise the ceiling at Madrid. His composure on the ball, progressive passing, free-kick abilities and a knack for long-range screamers make him a perfect fit for Alonso’s system.

With uncertainties looming over the futures of Rodrygo, Brahim Diaz and Endrick, and Mastantuono recovering from pubalgia, Paz could be a breath of fresh air to Madrid’s attack.

The 21-year-old is also set to play a pivotal role for Argentina in the 2026 World Cup.
