A head-turning statistic surrounding the latest efforts of a leading member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid has on Saturday come to the fore online.
The player in question? Aurélien Tchouaméni.
Blancos standout Tchouaméni, for his part, was back in action on the international front late last night.
As much came by way of a start for France, in the country’s Euro 2024 quarter-final showdown with Portugal.
When all was said and done, Les Bleus scraped through by way of a penalty shootout, following a 120-minute affair to forget.
During an otherwise underwhelming affair, though, Tchouaméni, to his credit, again stood tall from his berth in the middle of the park.
Impressive in and out of possession, the former Monaco talent’s ability to spread the play was of a particularly noteworthy standard.
In fact, so much did he excel in this category, that Tchouaméni managed to secure for himself a share of a recent European Championship record.
As revealed by statisticians Sofascore:
‘Across the last three EURO tournaments, only two players have completed 9+ long balls with a 100% accuracy in one match.’
First up comes Toni Kroos’ masterful effort against France back at Euro 2021.
And the only other player to have managed the same since 2012 is Tchouaméni, whose nine long balls against Portugal on Friday all found their intended targets.
