Real Madrid summer signing Carlos Espí has this week been rewarded for his impressive start to life in the colours of Los Blancos.
This comes courtesy of his first-ever call-up to the Spanish senior national team.
Youngster Espí is for his part fresh off nothing short of a spectacular individual showing for Spain’s U21s. En route to a 13-0 demolition of San Marino on Thursday night, the powerful frontman found the net five times.
After Ferran Torres was forced into a premature departure from Luis de la Fuente’s senior Spanish ranks on Friday, Espí was in turn chosen to replace the Paris Saint-Germain man.
As per a statement across the website and social media platforms of the reigning world champions:
‘Ferran Torres has left the Spanish national team camp. The Valencian international, who plays for PSG, had been experiencing discomfort in his left ankle.
‘Therefore, Luis de la Fuente has decided to call up Under-21 international Carlos Espí to join the senior national team camp and face the matches against Czech Republic and Croatia in Oviedo and Split.’
