Full-back Carvajal, for his part, is currently away on international duty with the Spanish national team.

Afforded some time off early in the week, the 32-year-old, in turn, sat down for an in-depth interview with The Athletic’s Guillermo Rai.

The pair talked through a whole host of topics during the exchange, one of which surrounded the next crop of breakthrough talent in Madrid.

Whilst Real’s Clásico rivals Barcelona continue to dominate the headlines when it comes to youth production, Los Blancos, too, have an impressive group of young performers making developing at present.

And, when asked which of the club’s academy products ‘stand out’ most to him on Wednesday, Carvajal went on to highlight five names in particular:

“Nico Paz (who joined Como this summer) is a great player, Mario Martin (who left for Real Valladolid on loan) too, (defender) Jacobo Ramon, (centre-back) Joan Martinez who is injured, Yusi is doing very well at left-back. They can have a future.”
