Real Madrid’s Raúl Asencio convicted of drink-driving in Gran Canaria | OneFootball

Real Madrid defender Raúl Asencio has been convicted of a road safety offence after admitting drink-driving in the south of Gran Canaria. According to Atlántico Hoy, he accepted the sentence in a fast-track hearing in August.

He was stopped at a routine checkpoint in San Bartolomé de Tirajana on 16 August and recorded 0.90 mg/l of alcohol in breath, above the 0.60 mg/l criminal threshold. There was no accident or reckless driving, and he was in a Porsche during night-time controls by Local Police and the Guardia Civil.

On 19 August the court imposed a four-month fine at 120 euros per day, totalling 14,400 euros, and an eight-month driving ban. The ruling is final because it was handed down by agreement.

He has begun the season under José Mourinho while sidelined by a July injury.

He is due to stand trial on three, four and seven September over the alleged unauthorised sharing of sexual videos recorded in 2023 at a hotel in Amadores. Prosecutors say he did not take part or film them, but allege he forwarded one video knowing it was obtained without the women’s consent.

The prosecution is seeking two years and six months in prison for an alleged privacy offence, and could withdraw the accusation if he apologises during the hearing. The complainants have accepted apologies and been compensated, although the case continues as a semi-public crime.

Former academy players Ferrán Ruiz, Juan Rodríguez and Andrés García also face trial, with a request for four years and seven months because they are additionally accused of distributing child pornography, as one victim was a minor.
