CD Castellón opened LaLiga Hypermotion with a 1-0 win at Real Sociedad B in Zubieta on Friday 14 August 2026.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, Pablo Hernández had virtually his entire squad available, with Fabrizio Brignani and Ilias Kostis absent.
Kick-off followed a minute’s silence for the hundreds killed in the recent Colombia earthquake, to be observed across this opening round.
Castellón debuted a maroon change strip with a black central band edged by two white lines, plus white collar and sleeves. It made a winning bow.
It was the club’s earliest official start on 14 August, earlier than last term’s 16 August and 2024/2025’s 17 August starts. It was also their third consecutive away opener in the second tier.
This was a third visit to Sanse, after last season’s 4-2 in LaLiga Hypermotion and a 1-1 in 2022/2023 in Primera Federación.
Real Sociedad B were without five players taken to London by Pellegrino Matarrazzo for the first team’s friendly at Chelsea: Theo Folgado, Luken Beitia, Alex Lebarbier, Álex Marchal and Job Ochieng. Jon Ansotegi learned of those call-ups yesterday. Ochieng scored twice in the 4-2 on 7 March in Zubieta.
Attendance was 1,937, including about 300 away fans.
Castellón host Sabadell on Sunday 23 August at 7pm. The visitors have sold their 300-ticket allocation at 25 euros, and, due to the UCO, away fans will move from high Preference to the North Stand upper corner, freeing extra seats for home supporters.
The venue for matchday three, on Monday 31 August at 9.30pm against Celta Fortuna, is to be confirmed.
