Real Sociedad endured a bruising night at La Cerámica, with individual errors underpinning a defensive collapse and scant attacking threat.
According to AS, Remiro gifted the corner for the opener, then prevented a third on 20 minutes and produced two saves soon after half-time.
Aramburu struggled and was booked. Jon Martín was late to Mikautadze’s goal yet still the best of a shaky back line. Zubeldia erred for Villarreal’s second, then went off injured with what appeared to be a hamstring problem.
Sergio Gómez endured one of his poorest outings of the season against Pépé. Gorrotxategi was off the pace and, after mistakes in build-up, was replaced at the interval having seemingly requested the change. Caleta-Car came on for the injured Zubeldia and did his job.
Soler registered La Real’s first effort on target, though Luiz Junior saved comfortably. Brais Méndez had a subdued game, slow to arrive and withdrawn on 68 minutes. Barrenetxea also toiled and was taken off on 68 minutes.
Guedes ran and tried to make things happen but was largely ineffective and was booked. Oyarzabal was quiet and missed a one-on-one before the break, then was replaced on 82 minutes.
Sucic impressed out of position and scored two minutes into the second half. Oskarsson found the net with a fine finish, ruled out for offside. Aritz lacked rhythm due to limited recent minutes.
