Real Sociedad send supportive message to Unai Egiluz after fresh ACL setback

Athletic centre-back Unai Egiluz has suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament graft in his right knee, having already missed this season with an ACL tear. The 24-year-old faces around 10 months out, which could extend to 12.

Messages of support have come from Athletic and supporters, and from Real Sociedad. The club said in a post on X, formerly Twitter, that he would overcome the setback again and sent him strength.

Rivalry was set aside as the Bilbao and Donostia clubs offered their backing.

In August, after Egiluz damaged his ACL in a friendly against Racing de Santander, Real Sociedad had also wished him a swift return and added the Basque word Eutsi.

Egiluz is under contract until 2028.
