Régis Le Bris has addressed the surprise exit of assistant head coach Luciano Vulcano, saying the fit was not right within Sunderland’s developing staff structure.

Vulcano was absent on Monday as Sunderland beat Burnley 3-0 at the Stadium of Light after leaving by mutual consent, according to Sunderland Echo.

The former Fiorentina coach had been handed a prominent role after arriving in the summer amid a wider reshuffle. Neil Cutler came in as goalkeeping coach, Alessandro Barcherini took on broader duties and Isidre Ramón Madir joined as an assistant focused on opposition analysis.

Le Bris said he valued Vulcano personally and professionally but could not find the right position for him in a dynamic, evolving group. He added that both parties chose to end the collaboration rather than force a role, noting Vulcano’s contribution and wishing him well.

Deadline-day signing Nilsun Angulo could be involved this weekend. Le Bris said Angulo would arrive this evening and is fit after regular game time, though his involvement depends on how quickly he connects with team-mates.

Granit Xhaka remains sidelined, with no fresh update, though Le Bris said he is progressing and ran on a treadmill today. Omar Alderete is available to feature despite being substituted late in the win over Burnley.
