Sunderland are pushing to reinforce before the window closes, and Régis Le Bris has hinted they could seek a direct replacement for Eliezer Mayenda.
According to Sunderland Echo, Mayenda left for Stade Rennais in a £22 million deal earlier in the summer after seeking more regular minutes, and the fee has had a very positive impact on Sunderland’s SCR position.
So far only Thomas Meunier has arrived. Sunderland are active in recruiting a left back and a right winger as priorities. Le Bris has also indicated a forward of Mayenda’s profile is under consideration, while further defensive additions could follow.
He said last season the ideal balance was roughly two and a half strikers, with Mayenda able to play off the number nine or from the right. Asked if that still applied or if he was content with Brian Brobbey and Wilson Isidor as his options, he replied: "The answer is in your question."
There has been significant interest in Isidor this summer, but after the 2-0 win over RC Lens earlier this month Le Bris confirmed the forward would stay on Wearside beyond the window and that he was content with his role.
