Sunderland head coach Régis Le Bris delivered team news in his pre-match press conference ahead of Bournemouth this weekend. According to Sunderland Echo, he outlined fresh injury concerns and the intensity he wants to see.
Bournemouth are awaiting scan results on Lewis Cook after he felt a hamstring issue in training. Andoni Iraola said it does not look big but the MRI will reveal more, and Cook missed the 0-0 draw with West Ham last week. Wingers Ben Gannon-Doak and Justin Kluivert remain long-term absentees.
After the defeat to Fulham, Le Bris listed five new worries, naming Nordi, Jocelin, Brian and possibly Romain, with Dennis also injured. He now indicates Nordi and Brian face short layoffs, around two to four weeks depending on their response. He added it is still early to be precise, some cases may be a few weeks to a month, and the outlook is not positive.
Jocelin could be in the same position as Romaine and might require surgery. In better news, Bertrand Traoré returned to full training this week.
Le Bris praised Granit Xhaka’s leadership and fit for his role, saying the midfielder helps the team settle with the ball. He accepted the side were too sloppy in a recent first half and felt Xhaka’s presence can bring consistency and cut the energy spent recovering after mistakes.
He condemned racist abuse and said the club stands for respect, inclusion and diversity.
Looking to the weekend, he said Sunderland must match Bournemouth’s intensity and impose their ideas. He spoke of staying consistent, aligning analysis and tweaking small details, stressing this difficult run is part of the team’s growth.
