Sunderland return to Premier League action against Everton on Sunday afternoon, with Régis Le Bris weighing up his selection after a strong showing at Manchester United last weekend.
According to Sunderland Echo, it is a pivotal fixture for both sides as they chase a top-half finish and retain an outside chance of Europe if they end the campaign strongly, leaving Le Bris with difficult calls over his XI and bench.
Robin Roefs is tipped to keep goal after a valuable clean sheet and a smart late stop last week, and he will hope to carry that momentum into this game.
Lutsharel Geertruida was picked despite the likelihood of a summer exit and was among Sunderland’s best performers, which appears to have earned him another start at right back.
Sunderland may prefer Nordi Mukiele at right back, but Le Bris’s reshuffle in Ballard’s absence worked, and Mukiele looked comfortable in central defence, so he seems likely to continue there.
Omar Alderete has been a mainstay this season and, after that clean sheet, his place at centre back appears unlikely to change.
