Régis Pitbull, 49, the former Ponte Preta, Corinthians and Vasco forward, is battling addiction and has spent the past two months living on the streets of Pirituba in north São Paulo.

On a cold morning he sheltered under tarpaulins in a small square, then went to a nearby restaurant for sugary coffee and donated food. He said he had used 'flor com ice' the night before.

He rarely bathes and owns few clothes, relying on friends for haircuts. A petrol station beside the restaurant stores his blue bicycle, used to visit friends and buy drugs.

After staying with relatives and friends, the street became his only option. Unpaid condominium fees and IPTU debts have triggered legal action that could cost him his flat, which he left after being arrested in 2025 for assaulting the building’s manager.

Régis has long lived with dependency, twice failing doping tests for marijuana before returning to play, then losing control to stronger substances.

Talk of help or admission hardens his expression, and he refuses to move in with acquaintances or seek medical treatment, saying he only needs a job. He turns 50 on 22 September and says there is nothing to celebrate, that he would rather people thought he were dead and he does not want pity.
