Reiss Nelson has left Arsenal after agreeing to terminate his contract by mutual consent, becoming a free agent.

Nelson is drawing interest from clubs in England and abroad and intends to assess his options before deciding his next move. The Athletic reports that West Ham United and Arsenal held talks earlier this month over a deal for Nelson.

The 26-year-old had entered the final year of his deal at the Emirates Stadium, which included a 12-month option. Arsenal will receive no fee, but the exit reduces the wage bill and there was acknowledgement he needs regular football.

He spent last season on loan at Brentford, making 13 appearances in all competitions. He started only three times, all in the cups, and missed 10 matches through injuries and illness.

An academy graduate, he signed his first professional contract in December 2016. He debuted in August 2017, coming on against Chelsea in the Community Shield.

After sporadic outings, he joined Hoffenheim on loan for 2018-19. The next campaign brought three goals in 22 appearances, game time then dwindled in 2020-21 before a loan to Feyenoord in August 2021.

He featured intermittently over the following two seasons and signed a new contract in 2023, but was mainly used from the bench. He later joined Fulham on loan, a hamstring injury ending his season in December 2024. Nelson departs Arsenal with 90 appearances, eight goals and nine assists.
