According to Mario Cortegana, it has come to light that although Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio requested a substitution against Juventus due to cramps, initial examinations have confirmed that it doesn’t seem like there is an injury.

This update immediately eased the concerns surrounding Real Madrid’s defensive lineup ahead of the highly anticipated El Clasico against Barcelona.

The centre-back had sparked alarm during the club’s 1-0 UEFA Champions League win over Juventus, but it now appears that the situation was far less serious than initially feared.

Cramp scare raises defensive concerns

The incident occurred in the 88th minute, when Asencio went to the ground after blocking a shot. Aurelien Tchouameni called for a substitution, and the sight of the centre-back leaving the pitch caused immediate worry.

It must be noted that Real Madrid are already dealing with injuries to Antonio Rudiger and Dean Huijsen, so losing Asencio at such a critical moment heightened fears over the team’s defensive readiness.

The timing could not have been worse, with the Bernabeu showdown against Barcelona just around the corner.

Everyone began speculating about potential defensive adjustments, worrying about how Xabi Alonso would manage without one of his key defenders.

After the match, reports emerged that Asencio’s departure was due to a simple cramp rather than a serious injury.

The defender remained on the bench rather than heading to the dressing room for treatment, which offered a clear indication that he would be available for selection.

Real Madrid can now breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that one of their most reliable defenders will be fit for the upcoming clash against Barcelona.

The timing of this news is a boost for Xabi Alonso, who can continue planning his defensive strategy without having to drastically reshuffle his backline.
