Renato Portaluppi was listed in the CBF’s BID on Tuesday night as Grêmio head coach, making him eligible to take charge against Botafogo in Rio on Wednesday in the Brasileirão.
According to Globo.com, the expectation is that Luiz Felipe Scolari, now the club’s technical coordinator, will act as interim at Nilton Santos, with his name also filed in the BID. Renato could still be on the touchline if he chooses.
The squad arrived in Rio on Tuesday afternoon. Renato and his assistant, Alexandre Mendes, later checked in at the team hotel.
It is more likely Renato makes his re-debut on Sunday, against Palmeiras at the Arena.
Scolari led training on Monday and Tuesday after the dismissal of Luís Castro, while the board finalised Renato’s return. Grêmio visit Botafogo at 19:30 at Nilton Santos in a rescheduled fixture from round 21 of the Brasileirão.
