Renato Sanches is closing in on a return to Portugal with Estrela da Amadora. According to A Bola, talks are advanced and the deal could be finalised within hours.
There were reports on Friday of a possible switch to Getafe, but the 29-year-old is now a free agent after terminating his Paris Saint-Germain contract, which had been due to run until 2027. As an unattached player, he can be registered in the league and could be available to Pepa immediately.
If an agreement is confirmed, Sanches is expected to sign a one-year contract.
He joined PSG in 2022 from Lille for €28 million and made 27 appearances, scoring two goals, in his first season. He then had loan spells at Roma in 2023/24, where he played 12 times and scored one goal, at Benfica in 2024/25 with 21 outings and one goal, and last season at Panathinaikos with 24 appearances, one goal and one assist.
Capped 32 times by Portugal, Sanches was a European champion in 2016. He has managed a reasonable number of games in recent seasons, aside from his Roma stint, but has struggled to recapture the early form that prompted Bayern Munich to pay €35 million to sign him from Benfica 10 years ago.
