With the strengthening of their defence being their priority this summer, Stade Rennais have set their sights on Alexander Djiku (29), who could return to Ligue 1 only one year after having joined Fenerbahce.
After a disappointing 10th place in the standings, Rennes is looking to strengthen their squad with the aim of a European qualification next season. With the recent departure of Jeanuel Belocian (19) to Leverkusen and Arthur Theate (24) looking for pastures new, the signature of a new defender is one of the Brittany side’s priorities. Rennes thought that they were close to sealing a deal for Lecce’s Marin Pongracic (26), but a last-minute move from Fiorentina hijacked the deal. Les Rouges et Noires have now targeted a familiar face in Ligue 1.
According to a report by L’Équipe, Rennes have an interest in signing Djiku from Fenerbahce, a player who has already strived under the orders of Julien Stéphan, back at Strasbourg. Despite only joining Turkey last season, the Ghana international could return to France, as his club could be tempted to make profits out of the centre back, who signed for free last summer. The French outlet reveals that an agreement could be found for a fee of around €10M.
