Rennes and Paris SG kick off their Ligue 1 campaigns on Sunday, 23 August 2026 at Roazhon Park, with the hosts aiming to set the tone early in front of their fans and the visitors looking to rebound quickly.
Recent meetings lean Paris SG overall, but Rennes took the last league clash here 3-1 in February 2026, a result that will give Franck Haise's side confidence heading into the opener.
Rennes arrive off a mixed pre-season: two wins and a draw in July were followed by defeats to Brentford and Sunderland. Paris SG's build-up was also uneven, losing to Lens after beating Aston Villa, alongside a draw with Manchester United and a loss at Mallorca.
Availability could matter. Rennes list Brice Samba as injured and Mahdi Camara suspended for this round. Paris SG are without Nuno Mendes through suspension.
Routes to goal may hinge on individual quality. For Rennes, Estéban Lepaul's penalty-box presence plus the creativity of Ludovic Blas and Sebastian Szymański could trouble a new-look Paris SG back line. For the visitors, Ousmane Dembélé's pace, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's one-v-one threat and midfield control from Vitinha and João Neves may stretch the hosts, with Achraf Hakimi offering an overlap on the right.
With the table blank at kick-off, a fast start would position either side near the early pace-setters. Rennes then host Le Mans, while Paris SG travel to LOSC before returning home to face Monaco.
