Arnaud Nordin’s first Rennes goal sealed a 1-0 win over Toulouse on Saturday, on matchday 24 of Ligue 1.
According to L'Équipe, Rennes controlled the first half, with Lilian Brassier tidy and assured at the back. He later made a decisive tackle in the area on 83 minutes as his side protected their lead.
Valentin Rongier impressed before the interval, dictating the tempo and stopping several Toulouse transitions. He was less smooth after the restart but remained a useful reference point.
For Toulouse, midfielder Demba Diop tried to stem that control with aggression and forward intent. He stayed active after the break and recovered 10 balls in total.
Charlie Cresswell struggled in the opening period and was late on Nordin for the goal. Booked for a cynical foul on 45+1, he looked more dominant after the break. He had Toulouse’s last chance to equalise, a header held by Samba on 90+2.
Julian Vignolo offered little threat before half-time, seeing few touches and lacking conviction. He was replaced at the break by Emersonn, who almost levelled on 47 amid hesitancy between Rouault and Samba. Emersonn later forced a strong save from Samba with a powerful effort on 57 but chances were scarce.
