Leeds United Women carried the momentum from a convincing victory the week prior as Simon Wood’s side defeated Chester-le-Street Town Ladies 3-0 away from home.

An impressive hattrick from Amy Woodruff secured all three points for the Whites, continuing league-topping, early season form.

An unchanged starting XI was named ahead of kick-off, the only difference coming on the bench in the form of summer signing Abi Coley making her first appearance in the squad.

The Whites almost got off to a dream start in County Durham as a searching ball down the line from Izzy Dean ended in a shot from Chloe Dixon being deflected off target and over the bar.

Chester-le-Street began to grow into the game after a comfortable opening from Leeds, forcing Holly Mears into a strong save after a powerful effort looked to sneak under the bar.

The visitors, however, soon found the breakthrough!

A great passage of play down the left flank ended in Darcie Greene playing the ball to Woodruff into the box, who angled herself to divert the ball on target and find the bottom corner!

Following the opener, the clash calmed down as neither side were able to muster a clear-cut opportunity other than some half-chances for the visitors.

Dixon was enjoying her afternoon out wide as she came forward again after half an hour, this time dragging a strike wide of the near post after cutting inside.

Moments later, the winger did the same again, this time hitting the advertisement hoardings after the ball fell kindly for her on the edge of the box.

Darcie Greene and Dean had to remain alert despite the Whites being on top, as a searching ball over the top was well dealt with by the pair after Jennifer Ashton looked to poach.

The game then stalled once again and John Davison blew his whistle to signal half time.

Leeds started the second half aggressively, looking to almost immediately double their lead as they attempted to work the ball into the hosts’ box.

Simon Wood made his first change of the afternoon after 60 minutes, handing Ella Harris her debut as she replaced Abbie Langstaff in an attempt to find a second goal.

Shauna Legge was next to have a sight of goal, rising highest from a Dixon corner but only firing over the bar as she attacked the ball under pressure.

Anna Cowie attempted the spectacular for Chester-le-Street soon after as she took aim from a free kick from far out, but ultimately firing comfortably wide Mears’ post.

Harris almost marked her first appearance with a screamer as she latched on to a loose ball on the edge of the box after Dixon’s corner was half-cleared, but her strike was just too high for the far corner.

The pressure eventually paid off with 15 to go, as Darcie Greene and Woodruff again combined to double the lead with the full back breaking down the left flank and into the box before squaring to our number 14 who tapped into the net to make it two!

But that wasn’t all for the visitors, as once again Woodruff was on hand to glace a header into the bottom corner, securing her hattrick and making it five goals in two games for the centre-forward!

Legge almost found herself on the scoresheet late on as she cannoned a powerful strike off the far post, before the referee sounded his whistle to confirm all three points heading back to West Yorkshire.
