Report reveals identity of Hansi Flick’s new Barcelona fitness coach | OneFootball

Despite having won the last two La Liga titles with his trusted players, Hansi Flick is set to have a somewhat changed FC Barcelona team for the upcoming 2026-27 season. The attack would be the one area of the team with the most notable changes, with the departure of Robert Lewandowski and the arrival of Anthony Gordon, and even more expected arrivals in this summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, moving beyond the team, another area that is going to undergo some changes is Flick’s own coaching staff. Two of his trusted assistants left his staff at the end of the last season, while the physical trainer, Julio Tous, was also reassigned to work with lower level teams.

Now, Mundo Deportivo reports that this new official would be Benjamin Kugel, a German trainer who has already worked in several countries and organizations during his career. He spent a few seasons with the German side Werder Bremen, and then remained with the German national team for seven years. After that, he worked with Salzburg, Cologne, the Israeli national team, PSV Eindhoven, and Benfica, with the Portuguese side his most recent stint.

He was not a part of the German national team when Flick took over as its head coach. However, the two have still worked together, when Flick was still an assistant coach in Joachim Low’s German national team coaching staff.

For now, an agreement for his appointment has already been reached, and only an official announcement remains. Hopefully, the arrival of Benjamin Kugel would help Barcelona get rid of the problem of injuries, that significantly affected it once again last season, especially with a player as important as Raphinha.
