Djed Spence to Inter: Tottenham Full-Back Set for £30m Move as Nerazzurri Back Chivu Plan

Inter are closing in on the arrival of Djed Spence, with Gazzetta dello Sport reporting that the English full-back is due in Milan ahead of the formalities that will complete his move from Tottenham. Medical checks, eligibility clearance and contract signing are expected to follow swiftly, with the deal framed as a major piece of business for the Serie A side.

The figures attached underline that view. Inter are committing £30 million, plus £5 million in bonuses, for a 26-year-old they see as an asset for the present and the future. In practical terms, Spence is being brought in to replace Denzel Dumfries on the right flank, but the attraction goes beyond a like-for-like switch.

What stands out in this report is Spence’s versatility. Inter believe he can operate on either side without any meaningful drop in level, a trait that appears central to Cristian Chivu’s thinking. For a side looking to become more aggressive and more vertical in its approach, that flexibility has obvious value. It gives the head coach tactical freedom, and it gives the squad a profile of player capable of solving multiple problems across a long season.

Inter Transfer Strategy Takes Shape

There is a wider message in this move too. Inter’s recruitment has pointed towards targeted additions rather than volume, with players selected to fit a clearly defined model. Spence looks to have been identified as someone who can add dynamism, athleticism and penetration from wide areas, while still offering enough tactical discipline to function in different structures.

For Tottenham, if completed, this would represent a clean and sizeable sale. For Inter, it is being positioned as a strategic investment, one that strengthens a key area and supports the direction Chivu wants to take his team.

Spurs Reaction to Djed Spence Exit

From a Tottenham perspective, this is the kind of departure that will inevitably prompt debate. Spence has long carried the sense of a player with tools worth developing, so a move of this size to a club of Inter’s stature will raise obvious questions about whether Spurs extracted the maximum from him. Clubs across Europe increasingly place a premium on adaptable full-backs, and that is precisely the quality highlighted most strongly in this report.

If Inter are indeed securing a player capable of covering both flanks and driving play forward, Tottenham supporters may feel they are watching another talent leave just as his value and clarity of role come into focus.

Our View

As a Spurs fan, this report is hard to read without a fair bit of frustration. Djed Spence always looked like a player with real upside, and now it sounds like Inter are about to benefit from the sort of qualities Tottenham never fully harnessed. When a club like Inter are prepared to spend £30 million plus £5 million in bonuses, it tells you they believe they are getting a ready-made contributor with plenty more room to grow.

The most annoying part is the profile. Quick, direct, comfortable on either flank, suited to aggressive football, that is the sort of modern full-back every top club wants. If Inter see him as ideal for a more vertical system, Spurs fans are entitled to ask why that pathway never properly opened in north London.

There is always context with these situations, managers change, priorities shift and some players need the right environment, but supporters will still wonder whether this is another case of selling a player just as his ceiling becomes obvious elsewhere. If he settles quickly in Serie A and performs at a high level, the noise around this transfer will only grow louder.

For Spurs, the hope has to be that any fee is reinvested smartly. Even then, it is difficult to shake the feeling that this could become one of those exits supporters revisit with regret.
