Chelsea have discovered when they will welcome Morgan Rogers into the squad after his summer transfer from Aston Villa.
Rogers, 23, put pen to paper on an initial six-year contract, with the option to extend by a further year, at Stamford Bridge after an £117 million fee was agreed with Aston Villa to finalise a transfer.
Xabi Alonso’s side managed to complete the blockbuster signing, who becomes the most expensive British player ever and the club’s record signing, despite interest from Arsenal, who were not prepared to meet Villa’s asking price for the England international.
“I'm so excited,” Rogers said upon signing for Chelsea. “For me, Chelsea are the biggest club in London and a club I've always admired since I was a kid.
“I'm really excited about the project with the new manager, the players we've got and where the club is heading. That's why I'm here and I can't wait to get started.”
Rogers completed all his formalities after returning from the World Cup with England, who claimed bronze in the United States after their win over France, having suffered a narrow defeat to Argentina in the semi-finals.
Chelsea waited for the tournament to conclude before accelerating their interest in the attacker, who underwent his medical on Monday to finalise his switch to the capital.
As he completed the formalities, he was welcomed at the club’s Cobham training ground by club captain Reece James, as well as his best friend Cole Palmer, to help him settle in.
Like James, Rogers will now depart for a couple of weeks’ holiday to rest and recover from the World Cup ahead of the new season.
Rogers’ new teammates are due to fly this weekend to embark on their pre-season tour of Australia and Asia. He, along with several Chelsea players, will not be travelling as they continue on their holidays.
Every player who competed at the World Cup is allowed three weeks off before being required to report to their respective clubs for pre-season.
Therefore, Rogers is set to join up with his teammates once they’ve returned from their five-game tour of Australia and Asia, which concludes on August 9.
It could see Rogers feature in Chelsea’s final pre-season fixture against Real Sociedad on August 15 at Stamford Bridge.
That will serve as Alonso’s final chance to assess which players he deems ready to start their Premier League opener away to Fulham on August 24.
