Benfica face Alverca on Sunday, and Richard Ríos, currently sidelined with a shoulder injury, has signalled his impatience to return on Instagram. According to Glorioso 1904, the Colombian’s message landed a day before the tie.

The No 20 shared a group photo from the centre circle at Estádio da Luz, the usual pre-match huddle, and wrote that he misses being out there and wants to help the team. The post was published on Friday, 6 February.

His recovery has been complicated and he has shown growing frustration. He was said to be disappointed at missing the Real Madrid game, which Benfica won 4-2.

Ríos has not played since 14 January, when he sustained the shoulder injury. He has worked to rejoin José Mourinho’s plans, and there are media rumours his return could coincide with the first leg of the Champions League play-off against Real Madrid.

This season he has made 32 appearances for Benfica, 16 in Liga Portugal Betclic, 10 in the Champions League, three in the Taça de Portugal, two in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça. Across 2,622 minutes he has scored three goals and provided two assists, and is valued at 22 million euros.
