Rillieux-la-Pape councillor alleges racist attack after Olympique Lyonnais v Le Havre match | OneFootball

Meriem Bouchedda, an opposition councillor in Rillieux-la-Pape, says she and her partner suffered a racist attack after Olympique Lyonnais v Le Havre at Groupama Stadium on Saturday 29 August. She says the assault happened as they left the venue.

According to Le Progres, the pair were confronted by a group of supporters while walking to their car after the security operation was lifted. Bouchedda described on Facebook that her partner was punched and kicked by several people.

She said they had been repeatedly abused with racist slurs, and when she tried to help she was hit, her T-shirt was torn and her glasses were broken. She posted a photo of her wrist in a splint, apparently taken in a hospital corridor, and said it was fractured.

Both received 15 days of temporary work incapacity, and she said her partner was strangled for several seconds before being released. She later filed a complaint.

The prefecture confirmed the complaint and said an investigation had been opened under the authority of the public prosecutor to clarify the facts. Bouchedda said she remains determined to fight discrimination in and outside stadiums.

Olympique Lyonnais said in a statement on Monday 31 August that it has zero tolerance for violence, racism, sexism and all discrimination. The club condemned the incident, expressed support for the victims, and said it will assist the authorities, open an internal inquiry and join proceedings as a civil party. It added it is ready to take measures to exclude anyone found to be involved from its stadium.
