Rival La Liga manager defends Real Madrid: ‘The only team in the world…’ | OneFootball

Girona head coach Míchel has moved to sternly defend Real Madrid, amid the recent backlash against the capital heavyweights.

This of course comes as Girona prepare to play host to Xabi Alonso’s troops.

Real Madrid have come under heavy scrutiny over recent weeks, for the disappointing level of their performances.

Prior to a midweek victory over Olympiacos in the Champions League, Real were winless in three, and struggling all over the pitch.

Even in triumphing in Athens on Wednesday, they allowed three goals, and could easily have surrendered two points late on through an equaliser.

Such woes have given rise to early calls on the part of some for Xabi Alonso to be dismissed from his role on the Bernabéu bench.

As alluded to above, however, one individual of the opinion that such criticism has been taken altogether too far is Girona boss Míchel.

Speaking to the media in the buildup to his side’s La Liga meeting with Real Madrid later this evening, the Spanish tactician assured:

“Real Madrid are the only team in the world that can be 1st in the league & be in a ‘complicated moment’. Everyone talks about them, but they’re the leaders.”

*Note* – Real of course actually sit 2nd in the Spanish top-flight behind Barcelona, but with the chance to return to the summit of the table at the Estadi Montilivi.
