Robert Renan will remain at Vasco until at least December 2026 after the club activated a six-month extension to his loan from Zenit, keeping him at São Januário.

According to PaponaColina, the centre-back’s agreement had been due to expire mid-year, and Vasco have formally notified the Russian side of their decision to trigger the clause.

Vasco are weighing whether to buy him outright at the end of the new term. A permanent transfer could cost up to 8 million euros, around R$ 48 million at current rates.

His retention addresses one of coach Renato Gaúcho’s priorities as he seeks to reinforce a defence that has struggled in the Campeonato Brasileiro. Even so, the club continue to scour the South American market for further options.

Football director Admar Lopes is in daily contact with the agents of Argentine defender Lautaro Di Lollo of Boca Juniors. Boca set a 20 million dollar release clause, and Vasco are considering a lower offer to open talks. The hierarchy are trying to make progress during the World Cup break.

The renewal comes amid a wider rebuild during the national recess. Vasco are 17th in the table, inside the relegation zone on 20 points, and are using the break to ease the wage bill.

Exits have begun with midfielder Tchê Tchê leaving CT Moacyr Barbosa, and playmaker Matheus França ending his loan to return to English football.
