Pablo Longoria, Medhi Benatia and Roberto De Zerbi have travelled to the United States to meet with club owner Frank McCourt, as Marseille begin to reflect on a turbulent but ultimately positive season, according to a report from RMC Sport. Following the conclusion of a demanding 2024-2025 campaign which ended with Marseille securing second place in Ligue 1 and a return to the Champions League—the club’s senior figures are conducting a strategic review alongside McCourt across the Atlantic.Les Olympiens sealed their second spot in Ligue 1 on the last match of the season on Saturday against Stade Rennais (4-2). Roberto De Zerbi said following the match that he “wants to stay 100%” at Marseille next season, but that he had to speak with the club president on certain changes at the club ahead of planning for next season in the Champions League.
“It’s part of the end-of-season discussions. Taking stock at the end of the season with the coach is always a good exercise,” said Marseille president Pablo Longoria at a press conference attended by Get French Football News yesterday. “The club-coach relationship is based on trust. With Roberto, we started a cycle that we set out in a three-year contract. I think we’re in a good place. The club wants to continue with Roberto. Roberto has already expressed his desire to stay at the club. I think everyone is on the same page.”
“We’re not going to make a soap opera out of this. We need good timing,” said the Spaniard in his press conference at the Stade Vélodrome “To plan a future together and bring stability to the club, we’re going to bring down the usual adrenaline level in this club so we can have a calm conversation.”
The meeting had been reportedly scheduled since January and is seen internally as a key moment to take stock away from the daily pressures of the Commanderie.
