Robin Roefs has already addressed his Sunderland future, playing down transfer noise, as fresh Tottenham interest emerges.
According to Sunderland Echo, Spurs have added the 23-year-old goalkeeper to their summer shortlist while Sunderland remain confident of keeping a player Régis Le Bris values highly.
Roefs has shone in a remarkable debut Premier League season after arriving from NEC Nijmegen for an initial fee of about £9million plus add-ons, having been little known in England before his move.
He was linked with a £60million switch to Chelsea after Sunderland’s 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur, and he responded by stressing he was not paying attention to outside speculation.
An injury against Bournemouth sidelined him for several games, during which Melker Ellborg impressed, yet his return against Tottenham underlined his status as Le Bris’ first-choice when fit.
Asked again about rumours, Roefs said it was not the time to think about moving, praised the trust from team and coach, and spoke about building on promotion and strong performances next season.
Roefs is being considered as a candidate to become Spurs’ number one as the London club fight relegation, and any deal is expected to be difficult. Bart Verbruggen and James Trafford are also under consideration, with Guglielmo Vicario expected to move on.
