Robinho Jr is understood to have begun formal steps with Santos, including talks over a possible contract termination, after an altercation with Neymar during a recovery session on Sunday.

According to Globo Esporte, the 18-year-old and his camp notified club chiefs of plans to act over the incident and set a 48-hour deadline for measures to be implemented, with discussions about ending his deal among four requests.

The dispute is said to have started when Robinho Jr dribbled past Neymar in training, then escalated into a physical and verbal confrontation. The former Paris Saint-Germain forward is alleged to have first made him trip, then slapped him.

Robinho Jr’s entourage is said to view the current environment as incompatible with his continued involvement and to have denounced an assault, citing a lack of minimum safety conditions to justify a potential exit.

A letter from the player’s camp to Santos requested an internal investigation to establish what happened, the release of training footage and a club statement outlining measures. In response, Santos are reported to have opened an internal inquiry to determine the facts and consider any disciplinary action.

Regarded as one of the club’s brightest prospects, Robinho Jr could leave early, depending on the outcome of the process. The consequences for Neymar are unclear, but they could be significant.
